Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall explains how a console port of DayZ is highly possible assuming they don’t “fuck up” the PC release.
“Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word ‘fuck up,’ the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain,” said Hall. “I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.”
It’s unclear whether Hall is targeting next-gen or current consoles as of now. However, he does explain how a console port for the PlayStation would be a possibility. “It appears to be the kind of game that Sony are interested in, I think we just have to wait and see,” he said. “We’ve talked and met with Sony, and they’re very – you know, they’re obviously interested.” The PS4 is expected to launch around December and it is unknown whether Bohemia Interactive’s new in-house engine for DayZ is already compatible with consoles so if they do end up sealing the deal with Sony, the console port will still take awhile. However, this means there is a high chance that DayZ will make it to next-gen consoles.
Last month, it was revealed DayZ won’t enter the alpha stage until at least June. The PS4 is expected to launch around December.
