Mojang was recently approached by YouTube and was offered royalties from Minecraft video ads which Notch declined.


He went on to say that they almost agreed to it. “We would’ve backtracked after the feedback, but we almost did it! Scary!”

Notch also previously tweeted regarding his disapproval of developers seeking compensation from Let’s Play videos. He referred to an article at Develop that outlined its benefits from a marketing point of view.  As of 2012, 4 million Minecraft-related videos were uploaded onto YouTube.
