The Forest is an open-world horror title by the SFX artists behind 300 and Tron Legacy

Vancouver-based studio SKS Games is comprised of a team whose backgrounds include CG centered films like 300 and Tron Legacy. The studio has posted an entry on Steam Greenlight titled The Forest.

It’s an open-survival horror game where the player starts out alone in a forest after surviving a plane crash. The gameplay trailer shows how you can cut trees down and shelter and other survival equipment.

After spending the day preparing camp, the player explores the forest and finds a network of dark caves where he/she  finds a race of underground cannibal mutant creatures. The game will feature a system where the player can evade, hide or fight.

According to the Steam Greenlight page, The Forest will feature a “breathing forest with changing weather patterns, plants that grow and die. Tides that roll in and out with the day/night cycle.” You’ll also be able to set up traps to defend the camp and plant seeds to grow food.

The Forest is due to launch later this year on PC and will fully support Oculus Rift.
