Tomb Raider film reboot will be much like the game
With the launch of the Tomb Raider reboot going quite well, Crystal Dynamics starts talking about their plans for a film reboot as well.
In an interview with Variety, it was revealed that the same studio responsible for The Departed and Rango, GK Films, is working on a Tomb Raider film reboot with Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics boss Darrell Gallagher stresses that the film reboot’s tone will match up to the recently released game.
“They are working on this new take that we’ve given them… we didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films,” Gallagher said.
The shift from the Angelina Jolie portrayal of Lara Croft is “necessary,” according to Crystal Dynamics Creative Director Noah Hughes. “Looking at Lara as a character, she was still going to be an intellectual heroine, a brilliant archeologist, but more athletic, more competent in traversal and puzzle-solving and combat,” said Hughes.
