Ubisoft’s Vice President of digital publishing, Chris Early, has stated that he is against DRM because it just doesn’t work.
“I don’t want us in a position where we’re punishing a paying player for what a pirate can get around.” he said. “Anything is going to be able to be pirated given enough time and enough effort to get in there.”
The real solution, he believes, is to create games that are good enough that people want to pay for them.
This opinion is a far cry from the days of always online play that Ubisoft once required of Assassin’s Creed fans.
We’ll have to see if Assassin’s Creed Unity’s security measures take Early’s words to heart.
